Do you regularly monitor your fan page even if you have nothing to post? I’ve found that it’s a good idea to check it daily if possible or at least several times a week. What you are looking for is the following:
- Comments from fans that need to be responded to or acknowledged
- Questions from fans that need to be answered
- Spam that should be removed
- Competitive links that have been posted
- Other content that has been posted that does not fit with your fan page strategy
- New fans that you need to welcome (if that is part of your fan page strategy)
- Fans that you might want to send a friend invite to
Spam postings on my fan page have increased recently and I’ve seen a pattern in the last couple of weeks. It seems that most spam is posted in the evening hours so I’m going to start checking my fan page in the evening in an effort to remove spam faster. By the way, when I remove spam…I also typically remove the fan. (You’ll need to decide how you want to handle spam and spammers on your fan page.)
Keep in mind that if you use a service like Hootsuite (or others) to read your fan page stream and/or schedule your status updates, you are Not seeing status updates posted by fans. So be sure to login to Facebook and regularly monitor your fan page, engage with fans and remove spam.
How often do you check your fan page wall? Have you had a problem with spam? Let us know in the comments below how you handle it. Thanks!
Your Facebook Informant,
Kimberly
