HOW TO: Add A Fan Badge To Your Facebook Profile

by Kimberly Yow on March 31, 2010

It’s been quite a while since a wrote a blog post on this Facebook For Business blog (due to family health issues).  It feels weird to be back at it.  Anyway, here goes.  There are many ways to promote your Fan Page both on and off of Facebook.  One way is to place a “Fan Badge” on your Facebook personal profile so your profile visitors see it.

Login to your Facebook account and then go to http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/fanbadges.php to create your Fan Badge.  You’ll see a screen that looks like the one below.  Select a page that you are a fan of from the drop-down menu in Step 1.  (Notice how the Fan Badge Preview on the right changes if you select a different fan page?)

Right click in the box directly under Step 2 and then click “copy” from the menu that appears.

Now go to http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=5577282239 and click “Go to Application” directly under the HTML logo in the upper left hand corner.  Read the message on the next screen and then click the blue “Allow” button.  You should now see a screen that looks like the one below:

Right click in the large text box and then click paste.  (This will paste your Fan Badge html code into the box.)

Click the Preview button and if everything looks okay, click Publish.  Next you’ll want to follow the instructions on the My HTML page (below the large text box) that cover how to add a “My HTML” tab or box to your personal profile.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them below or on my Social Networking 4 Biz Fan Page.

I used your instructions to had a fan badge to my profile and it worked except for the image. It just shows a box with a red “X” where the profile image should be. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Hi Jill – Can you possibly send me the link to the Fan Page you created the badge for AND a link to your personal profile? I’ll take a look and see if I can figure anything out. – (Kimberly@marketingthatseasy.com)

It seems to be working now, the picture is showing up. Facebook must have fixed something! One more question, How do you add more than one Fan Badge on your profile? Seems when I try adding a new one all that happens it that my previous one gets overwritten…

Hi Jill – I was able to add the code for a 2nd fan badge to my html box but when I viewed my profile, the 2nd badge didn’t display entirely. And, it doesn’t look like you can add a 2nd html box. What I would suggest is that you search on “html” and look at the other applications that come up in the search results (I know there are quite a few). Try adding a different html application to your profile and then adding the 2nd fan badge code to it.

Quite a while ago, I tried some of the other html applications and they didn’t work so just know that this will be a trial and error task for you. Sorry, I can’t remember which ones didn’t work :(
